Will Tuesday's Election Results Predict the Outcome of the 2010 Elections?

What will the elections in Virginia and New Jersey tell us about the future of the political parties?

Posted November 2, 2009

On Tuesday, the highly publicized governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey will come to an end as voters in those states submit their ballots. While a recent Quinnipiac University poll shows that N.J. incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine and his Republican opponent Christopher Christie are statistically tied in the polls, in Virginia the margin of defeat is a little wider, as Democratic candidate Creigh Deeds trails the GOP's Bob McDonnell. According to many political experts, including Thomas Jefferson Street blogger Peter Roff, the results of these two elections could tell us a lot about the strength of each political party in future elections and the level of public support for President Obama. What do you think? What will these state elections mean for the political parties? Take our poll and post your thoughts below.

Term Limits - Keep drinking the coolaid

Term limits will never be a reality without 3/4 of the states voting in referrendum as an additonjal amendment to the Constitution.Period. End Of Sentence. Done.

Our congress may be a-holes, but they are not morons, they understand quite well the concept of self-preservation.

term limits

until congress is part of the working class nothing will be fixed. If we are to use a viable social security system everyone needs to be on it or it will never be fixed.Public officals need to be on the same retirement as working folk.

Term limits would help them to realize this fact and to go one step further the running time for an election campagne needs to be limited to six mounths. The idea of public funding for the campagne needs to be revisited aswell.Limiting canadates to public funding will stop these canadates from spending millions of dollars on a $200,000 a year job.

The auto rase system needs to be stoped aswell. To get a rase you need to earn it.

we need new faces

The problem with our politicians is how easy they forget who put them there, they become more loyal to their political parties then the voters who elected them. When I vote I vote for the character and the trust that candidate inspirated at that moment , but all the congressman believe that they are untouchables. We need new blood, maybe we would end up choosing a bad candidate, but the next time voting we get ride of that one to. until we fund somebody honest who actually understand that their job is to protect the interest of the voters, not to follow their parties ideas.

I really believe a Senator or a Congressman should be elected for one single term only. That is the main problem in our political system. Both parties need a clean up, or we as a voters can change to the independent party, and will see who vote for them.
